Basically i went round my mates today to get his battery as i suspected mine had gone.
I put his battery in my scooter and still nothing happened.
I put my old battery in his scooter and it started it up?
When the scooter is running all the electrics work but when the scooter is off nothing works. E.G Electric start, Horn etc.
Anyone know where the problem lies?
    Thanks

Nah no worries mate, I was the same when I first got my bike but you pick up loads from this site.

I mean I'm no electrics expert but when my electrics stopped working it was the fuse, but only because the electrics kept short circuiting due to an under seat light coming loose, a wire toucing the frame, hence blowing the frame everytime I would try and turn her on.

So, try and new fuse, it could just be that yours is old, but have a look around your bike and follow wires to look for splits or loose wires touching metal parts of the bike.

There might be more than 1 fuse but near your battery their should be one, in a small white tube sort of box, open this and have a look. You should notice if it's blown, mate.

    Just to make it easier:

If it is the fuse, they are piss to replace, you should be able to get a pack for about 50p.

I may be completely wrong, it might not be the fuse, but at least you know a bit more about fuses!

    :pimp:

Also do i need to disconect the battery when taking the fuse out?
And will any car shop sell them (or bike).
The electrics work when the bike runs but not when it aint running...

    No worries mate.

I don't think you have to disconnect it, might be an idea to just incase but without you attempting to try and start the bike via the ignition i dont think it will be a problem.

Yeah they should sell them, someone like Halfords will. Take the old one in if nessecary.

I'm not 100% sure if the fuse would matter when the bikes running or not mate because when I had the same problem as you, my kickstart didn't work so might have to wait for someone else's input.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Oh and don't worry about going over all of your bike if you can't, just check around the battery area and any electrical bits that are easy to get to, or any places you might have fiddled with recently.

Yeah, when i first aquired the bike last week the electric start did work but it seemed like the battery was flat and wouldnt hold charge (didnt work every time) then a few days ago it none of the electrics worked at all so i thought it was the battery.
So if it is the fuse (i hope so) it will make life alot easier =)

Oh right, it might be something slightly more serious than a fuse then, but you will have to wait for someone with a bit more knowledge to shed some light on the problem. Check the fuse though.

Not sure mate, it's different to mine.

Try splitting that black box open and see whats inside. Thats if that possible. If not you will have to wait for someone else.

Follow the wires leading to the battery as well.

Fixed it, was the relay (box with 27v ) on pic. It wasnt conducting right so i sprayed both parts of the connection with wd40 and it solved the problem
Also checked the fuse and it was fine ;)
    Thanks for the help :punk:

water or de-ironised water? if you put normal water in there, chances are your battery won't last long now.

    Just read up on it.
"Add distilled water to any cells in which the level of electrolyte isn't touching the bottom of the fill port. Use only distilled water. The minerals in tap water will eventually reduce a battery's capacity."
I didnt need to fill them up alot though.
If it does mess up il get my old battery out my mates pug.
