AEROX 50 ELECTRICS/LIGHTS

Hi, I have a 2005 aerox 50. It starts and rides fine, the oil light works as does all the other electrics except the lights. The side lights glow on idle but are barely visible until you rev the bike right upand then they come on really bright. Also the rear light dosn't come on till you really rev the bike and the main headlight doesn't work at all. I bought the bike this way and have no ideas what could be wrong with it.
any ideas what it could be?
I thought maybe it was the rectifier does anyone know how to test this

 

Sounds like a combination of shagged out battery and loose connection to the lighting circuit.

Does the electric starter work?

 

its got a new battery but the starter isnt connected cause the kid i bought it of said it didnt work with a 70kit
