just bought a y reg aerox! it starts and rides fine! but struggles to go fast and struggles to pull away fast? what could it be?
Hi theyre not that fast in the first place but I can get an indicated 65mph downhill and 60mph on the flat out of my standard aerox 100, when I first bought it the variator rollers and belt were worn out and also the rear torque driver was worn out all creating bad gear changes and poor acceleration and top end so I would start by checking all of the above parts for wear!
Yeah thats normal, you need to measure the width, if its less than 16.5mm then its worn, also if theres loads of black dust under the cover thats a good sign its probably worn too, the variator is at the front end of the belt, you need to take it apart to check the rollers, the same goes for the clutch and torque pulleys at the rear of the belt, if your unsure of how to take it apart try youtube for a rough guide. You must completly take aprt the pulleys at the rear as its the guide slots thats wear on these and you cant see the wear when its all together! The rollers will have flat sides worn into them if worn and the slots in the torque driver will be kind of oval instead of the same size as the pins, you will see what i mean when you strip it down! The belt works on friction not by any kind of teeth being driven by a sprocket, the teeth on these belts just allow it to bend easy!
cheers bud there is black soot inside the casing! and the belt is loose! i rode it tonight and it road fine! picked up speed but very slowly! it even wheelies. then i stopped and tried to ride up a very small inclimb(driveway ramp) and it revved up normal but just hardly moved? would this be the belt and rollers?
I as said you really need to get them all apart and check them, theyre probably all showing signs of wear, are you sure the bell was loose and its not just backlash in the gears which is normal?
the belt is tight but then if i hold it in the middle and squeeze top and bottom together it pulls its self down in the metal wheel thing at the back and goes loose! i know my technical terms arnt amazing sorry
its ok, thats normal its what its meant to do, thats how it changes gear, go on youtube and search for scooter cvt operation, you will see how it works then, you will need to take off the variator at the front (wheel thing with a fan on the outside) and the clutch and torque driver (metal wheel thing)youtube variator and torque driver too! Then look for wear on the rollers that are behind the front metal wheel and wear on the metal wheel thing at the back, but no offence maybe its time to get someone with good mechanical knowledge to get involved?
i have got good knowledge. im training to be a bike mechanic but ive never worked on peds! im no good with explaining things but ill put my hand into anything and give it ago! hence the reason im asking for help off you lads! im going to clean carb and check for holes in rubbers etc etc tomorrow! then if not ill check rollers! and work out what size i need to order! and see how it goes then! cheers
just put new rollers and belt on and still no change! theres a huge blow in the exhaust! could that be it! hope this isnt a duhhh moment!!
