My name is Dan and I am 16 years old and am looking to get a bike. I don't like the styling of modern mopeds but want to buy a 50cc bike. I have a budget of £350.00. Anyone got any advice on what i could get (second hand)? Thanks.

    Hello Dan and welcome.

maybe something like a second hand piaggio mojito , they have that retro style but with upto date modern mechanicals , there are also some chinese bikes, but they can end up costing you more in repairs than you get riding them on the roads, dont get me wrong some are not bad but others are just not worth even the cheap price tag. Sym and Kymco are tiwainese bikes so have some sort of quality to them more than some non branded chinese make. ( direct bikes is one i would say to steer clear of seen a lotta folks just having trouble with them from the start), the most iconic retro style scooters are the Vespa , maybe look for a Vespa et2 or a vespa et4 again modern but have a stylish retro look to them

if your able to save up a little more, and dont mind going a modern style there are the honda's piaggios peugoets , thinks like an aerox - vison - speedfight 1 or speedfight 2 .

i picked up a sym jet Basix for £220 on a 2006 plate with a years MOT, but you must be wary when buying a scooter as some folks will sell you one thats not running but will swear it is and you end up forking out fixing it.
remember its your first bike so its going to maybe get some knocks - bangs and scrapes as you learn to ride and learn the roads, so keep this in mind a shiney brand new bike is going to cost more to repair, but one already rough lokking but running sweet is going to last and a few extra dents will not matter much.
