Advice on electrical fault

    Hi there

    I am the proud owner of a Lambretta LN 2012 (SYM Fiddle II Base). It is a GY6 scooter with a Lambretta label.

    I had a dink last summer and had to rebuild the front forks. That went fine, but in the process, I think I may have damaged the electrics. Having rebuilt the electrics, everything works (lights, indicators, horn) but there is no spark. It turns over, but no spark = no start !

    Having done a diagnostic, I've whittled it down to the CDI or stator. I haven't tried the CDI yet, however I do not get a reading from the stator. I get about 150 ohms across the stator on the coloured wire, but on the black/red wire, I get the same reading but then it drops to 0. Every time. And that is my question: is that normal? or is the resistance dropping to zero on a stator terminal an indication that the stator is the problem.

    I have a new stator to install, but I do not want to dismantle the stator fly wheel magnet etc if a negative reading on the black/red terminal is normal.

    What are the ohms readings on the new stator? It's not usual to damage electrics just by fitting forks, yes a trapped wire maybe but that's it. side stand switch ?

    I haven't checked the readings on the new stator. Good idea, I will do that before taking the old one off.

    You're right about fitting forks, how it shouldn't damage electrics. However, I was a bit careless when reconnecting everything. In particular, I tried firing it up when there was a component disconnected from the front. I don't know what the part was that was disconnected, but it looks like a big capacitor, sitting at the front of the bike near to the ignition switch, with several wires running into it. I wonder whether trying to fire it up without that connected blew the stator.

    It has to be either the stator or CDI. The battery is new, the spark plug is new, and the solenoid and plug cable are both good. I have a spare CDI as well, but I'm not sure it is the right one. I can't test the old CDI, rather I just need to replace it and see if I get a spark. I'd rather buy a different CDI I know is correct than risk damaging the electrics.

    Anyway, good idea about testing the new stator. I will do that next and report back.
