Hi guys, first post here -

I'm installing a 50mm big bore kit (~85cc) on a Honda Dio AF18E. I noticed that the needle bearing on the conrod small end is not contained. It can slip from side to side on the gudgeon pin a total of 4.5mm (see picture). Original piston only had 0.8mm movement total.

This could mean that if the bearing slips to the side, the load on the piston is only transmitted non-centrally through a fraction of the needle bearing.

Is this normal? Or should I add some bushes either side to reduce this 'float'?

    Thanks,
    -Grant

    Cheers for the replies.
It just seems like it wouldn't last as long with the bearing central.

What about making up some aluminium spacers?

Shit, that bearing width is for the original needle bearing. The new bearing is only 12.7mm, therefore 5.8mm of play. Still be alright?

I was looking up some bearing catalogues, couldn't find any wider bearings in the conrod section, but they have some in the standard section - would that be a go?

you have to take into notice the small end holder on the crank takes some room too.
