So, Ive been all pleased having fixed my bike (link to thread at bottom) and Ive been buzzing around for over a week with no problem at all. Last night I was on an A road, nat speed limit so I thought, right, Ive taken it easy all week, lets see what we can get out of it. Now I`m not a speed freak and wont ever run the bike at full speed, but I was curious to see what the top speed was. I got yo 66mph, and was coming up to a round about and let off the throttle. Nothing happened. Throttle was off, and the bike continued at full speed with the engine screaming louder and louder... VERY lucky the round about was clear. 5 miles and a few red lights later i came to a stop when the engine bogged out under breaking (VERY GINGERLY BREAKING) Once i had regained bladder control I stepped off the bike and wheeled it on to a virge, got my phone torch out and had a look around at the machine that just TRIED TO KILL ME! Turns out i had ripped the accelerator coil out of the carb. Card flooded with fuel and off i flew... The reason? a 2cm washer i had neglected to put on the screw that hold the coil and top part fitting to the main body of the carb... The vibrations must have been slowly shaking it loose. Scary night. http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threa...edfight-2-100cc-sport-2008.29208/#post-277718
F and H would have been a brown trouser moment! 66 not bad It makes me think because I've only just managed to get mine to 50 according to speedo but it seems spot on matching other speed things but I could imaging the worry having the throttle jammed open flying on a twist and go
I dare say the 66 was probably a result of the screw up with the carb but I believe I am good for 60mph without much trouble. Not bad considering the state the bikes in and what its been through. Engines the only reliable part!!
I should also say the really stupid thing is it didn't occur to me to just turn the bloody ignition off! too busy flapping at the time, lol. I love the smell of burning break discs.
I would of been having a right flap haha, it would be convenient that my speedo packs in as i sort my carb out! so unsure what my speed will be now hopefully just a loose speedo wire
Just 'fore i took my ne off the road,at times i could act. go faster by pushing the throttle forward!,everything got kinda crazy on it,bits sn pieces falling apart around it centred around a bullett proof engine. One thing i picked up from mechanics class a few years sgo is to always! use the correct nuts/bolts,etc.,on bikes as there design (pitch, length, strength ,size)are designed spec.to take into acc.bikes operating parametres, jurrying rigging might work short term but only!! that.
I saw something on gumtree the other day, reminded me of your scooter...http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/honda-melody-50-50cc-49cc/1010415915 absolut bargain, if I had 200 I defo would, it's mint, still got original grafix, it's like it was crated up.
Would of bought it in a heartbeat, studyed the melody a little earlier when casting about for repl. wheels,my ne was reliable enough-(engine wise/till in bits to look at?!!?.),melody simpler/could probaly fix it with a toothbrush+cple plasters! . Funny though the bloke who sold me the ne was from clacton!.
£200 for a Melody?! I bought 2 non runner Melody's a few years back for £25 and made 1 half decent bike out of the 2. Got to say, most unreliable bike I've ever had in then end we took it all apart, burnt the plastics and sent the rest to the tip And my mum had a beige one in the 90's
Well for me it was just a field bike/something to tinker with Did the wheels in black, pollished the front drum brake and switchgear, built up a spanny and it looked pretty trick But the auto choke was knackered and kept playing up, would've cost more than the bike to replace it
Tell me about it,checked out £ prices on cmsnl almost choked -)),when ne's back otr i'm going phbg?+manual conversion.still working on exhaust side (thought sito+),but kinda of like the idea of a mini expansion (but don't want it past rear wheel l/nut).
i did that with my vx, the throttle got pinned open (80mph) on a roundabout, the culprit was the intake manifold clamp was in the wrong place. also today i was test riding a tzr and the chain hopped off the front sprocket, wrapped around the back sprocket and jammed the wheel, luckily i was only doing 20km/h at the time. (was a customers bike too!)
