I have a feeling that my typh has a rear drum brake. (Hard to tell if you're not a mechanic, like me, but i'm pretty sure of it). However I want to replace that with a disc brake. I'm guessing thats a lot of money and a lot of effort, right? Someone help me out with that.

Also I want to clean the air filter out. Is it the big black box on the left hand side? Just a question of unscrewing the cover and cleaning the sponge that's inside or buying a new one? Performance upgrade on a sports filter worth the money?

Oh and I also have no idea whether it is AC or LC. I think its AC but I have a cap near where the handlebars are for what looks like coolant to go in. Or is that just a brake fluid thing? I owned a LC before and it had this and I remember putting coolant in there and nothing ever blowing up... so it could be or could not? Any other ways to tell?

Always thinking of more questions every time I use the bike, so probably more to come.

But I appreciate anyone's time if they could help me out with these.

    Thanks.

All typhoons are rear drum. 50 and 125's.

Changing the rear brake to disk involves a large parts list and quite a bit of labour for really not much increase in braking performance. Your rear brake shouldn't be doing hardly any work anyway. The rear drum can be improved by replacing the shoes with aftermarket ones such as Malossi MHR's and by making sure it's all adjusted right.

The air filter is as easy as unscrewing a few screws and taking the foam out and giving it a clean. A sports filter is pointless unless you have tuning add-ons and a large carb.

All typhoons are air cooled unless someone has bodged a LC engine into them. The cap you are on about is the front brake fluid reservoir. Runners have a similar placed cap which is for the cooling and nothing to do with brakes.

Ok thanks, that clears up everything clearly. I know disc's are better but to be honest i'm not gonna bother with it all for a 125... if it was a 400+ then yeah. Although I will get those sports brakes cos mine are failing atm.

I may consider the sports filter when I get the bigger carb I plan on getting one day... but not yet.

    Thanks for the help... appreciated.
