well the book has made me do it,going to try a bit of barrel work :w00t: exhaust port first i quote the exhaust port must be lower than the the piston at bdc to ensure best exhaust flow .so thats where i am going to start see the pic ,
be careful when altering timeings. might want to try some transfer opeing first, or widening the port before heightening it. i started my practice with the exhuast port. but was more flowing it from the inside rather than altering on the actualy face of the barrel. also a word of advice, if your like me and dont have a very steady hand then positon it to you can lean your hand on something lol.
he said the bottom.. fuck all to do with timings LOL.. ill send some pics your way when your next on msn m8... should get the old ticker tocking
Wont using a plate/thick [single piece] gasket give the same outcome? Im sure i remember doing that on the b1 engine graham.? Good luck btw shiny, hope it goes well. I'm sure it will with a bit of help from the right people.
no that will raise the top an bottom edge of the port.. using no gasget drops them but then squish is disturbed.. just set squish then mark with that gasget.. only needs to be SLIGHTLY below the exhaust but as close as possible wihtout going above.. a step down is alot less harsh than a step up for the gas.
Sorry lol, i was thinking the correct way but find it hard to put it into words lol :emb: .... So basically you could run no gasket and then re-machine the dome to the required squish?
yup..bit of a pain to do tho. BEST way is use a spacer, drop the port's then machine down the thickness of the spacer from the top of the barrel. whatever the spacer thickness you gain the same mm port raise across the band so you dont have to worry about getting blowdown and timings correct as its a passive raise. easy to work out the timings from the raise vs stroke vs the original timings
removed malossi but wont i lose bhp without malossi written on it :w00t: finished the bottom of the exhaust port i think ?gonna match the outlet now to the stub ,i am going to machine the inner section of the stub out so its the same size as the inner of the front pipe then match the barrel to that?
remember, you dont want it too wide at the bottom, an keep the angle consistant throughout the exhaust tract. push the sides at the top out without touchin the bottom of the side's.. make it completly flat to the highest point of the port then set blowdown by removing slight ammounts from the middle of the top. sounds complicated but pics are REALLY helpful. (only got fuckin ms paint on mums comp)
fuckinghell minor is there anything u dont know lol.. i bet you could tune the fucking star trek space ship lmao what book would u reccomend on porting.. dont wanna try it cos i dont know anything about it.wanna learn before i try shiny is this a spare barrel ur porting or the one from your own bike
if you wanna learn somin grab the bull by its horns.. doing it wrong is the best lesson.. no books on porting are any good.. just read them all and make your own mind up from what people say.. most of them are for geard bikes so alot of it can be binned, you want peak power and fuck all else really. transmission can make up for a lack of low rpm power. jus get reading tho as if you know why somthing works you can figure out how to make it beter all by yourself
yeah barrel off me bike no point in playing with a spare, may as well just dive in,got the shite stroke to keep me on the road, will do minor thanks
