The oil light comes on when I try to start it, but I've just put 2 stroke oil in. The fuel tank is full as well.

One thing I noticed is that it used to sound weak when it started and occasionally cut out when the throttle was twisted. Now, it won't even start. It made the typical starting noise but that was it. The noise has got slower now so I'm a little hesitant with trying again.

It began having slight trouble starting unless it was started recently beforehand. If you stopped it and then starting it again within maybe 10 minutes it'd fire up no bother.

This all seemed to start since the oil was put in. The oil tank was empty so surely the oil can't be to blame. It is definitely a 2 stroke though.

    What could be wrong?

well, it worked, and now it doesent, funny how thats how most things break/stop working. the fact it did work doesent mean anything.

from what youve said, its been run on no oil, fucked the top end and now wont run

Well when I said that all I meant was that it used to work fine, and all of this seems to have happened rather quickly. I know that's how most things go.

When I say it used to work, I don't mean riding. Like I say it's not road legal and I haven't passed my CBT yet so I can't ride it. Just occasionally started up for a minute, and not that often to be honest.

If that has indeed happened just how much would it cost to fix?

The noise it makes when the electric starter is pressed has got a lot slower. Someone suggested the battery may be flat. It did get started with oil in for about ten minutes, because I wanted to give it chance to flow round the system.

Could it be the battery? It's never been left running for a considerable time since I got it. And like I say it's not been ridden.

    Thanks for your help.

does it have a kickstart? could just be a dead battery not spinning the motor quick enough to start. if it has a kick, try that. if infact it has done the top end in due to being run wiht no oil your looking at the best part of 100 for a new top end (can find them cheaper mind)

it could be a number of things tho, your discription is pritty basic "it doesent work, whats wrong"... could be something like a blocked fuel line/jet in the carb..

have you EVER seen the bike run/ride?

I rid it briefly when I got it round the block, and so has my dad and my uncle. All in all run for about 10 minutes maximum. It run fine as well - really nippy and sounded fine.

I've had it with me for just over a week, and it started fine following its test ride. It just started having a little trouble starting, then today wouldn't start at all. Like I say if you started it, turned it off and then started it immediately after, it would start first time. If left it would have a little trouble. This is what led me to believe it was the battery initially.

It doesn't have a kick start unfortunately. Although the sound it makes does have a dead-battery sort of a sound. I just thought I'd ask on here in case it's something else.

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated. :)

jump it off another battery... scooters are (in most cases) 12v so you can jump them off a car no prob.

    what bike is it?

It's a Kymco Cobra Racer 50cc - lovely little bike.

Would a 12V 8A battery charger blow my house up? It's a 12V charger like, just the battery is 12V 5A - not really that good with anything electrical, so not sure whether the 3A would be dangerous or not.

If not I'll ask my dad tomorrow - he's working atm.

    Thanks for your help.

in most cases car chargers are fine to use, the rated power is usually maximum, there pritty smart little things and will monitor resistance through the battery and work out the ampage to throw at them... if your atall unsure check wiht the instructions. as it may be a force charger and over amping it could be dangerous. altho jumping the battery from another will often throw a shitload more amps through it. but ive never had problems wiht short uses (like car batterys jumping bikes as there not connected long enough for the battery to warm up/become dangerous)

    jump it
