hey guys and girls... right, well, iv been having problems with my old carb, leaking out the float bowl and after not finding the problem i bought a new carb, airbox and a few other bits.. so iv fitted the 17.5 carb and the bike wont start yet again...lol its only a 50cc , i didnt bother with a 70cc bore at the time but regret it now.. but what i was wondering was, if anyone could help... Have i bought the wrong carb ?? and am i gonna be encountering problems with only a 50cc on there trying to run a bigger carb ?? shold i have bought a k&n style filter for the bigger carb or is the standard airbox OK ?? could anyone maybe tell me why it wont start??.. sometimes the petrol doesnt go to the carb..or oil, i cant remember which , and apparatly thats why it wont start vacuum is working tho.. tried to word that to the best of my ability as said before im not very smart with bikes, hence the 'easy' questions lol... just want my bike running forever spending money on new parts to find it stil doesnt start is NOT the one lol... Thanks guys,, if you can help me would be very much appreciated
hiya did ur bike start with ur old carb, check if ur carb getting fuel and check ur getting an gd spark,
yeah mate it did start with the old carb, but it wouldnt move under its own power, just revved then cut out.. and leaked petrol from float bowl hence why i bought a new one hoping it would cure the problem but hasnt
if oil isnt always getting tp the carb you risk seriouse damage due to lack of lubrication, this could cuase heat seizes, rings melting and other nasty stuff. Certainly want to make sure that works. For fuel, simply unplug the fuel line and turn the bike over a few times, you should see fuel coming from the line at a steady stream when turning it over, and the strem should steady and almost stop when not turning it over. As far as im aware a 1.5 carb on a 50 is fine, i would imagien you could run a 21mm carb on a 50 as long as you jet correctly. As for airfilters, stock should work fine, but will hinder airflow, not that you should notice on a 50. If you go to an open stlye air filter you will need to upjet. Im not sure whether you upjet the main jet ofr the low speed aswell. My bike recently wouldnt start after i fiddled, i found i had damaged my choke, check your choke is off if the bike isnt too cold and try firing it up, trying to fire it up with chioke continusoly will simply flood it. Have you checked the spark plug after turning over the ped for a while to see if its wet?
CreamsodaUK - thanks for that, it has helped me.. the flow of petrol isnt exactly spurting out, it more or less dribbles out ? my kickstart is sh*t so could it be that ? got teeth snapped/missing .. ill try and get it working without use of the choke too, see if that changes anything, and my spark plug isnt gettin wet.... Cheers pal JamesDNA - nah mate, my old carb has a little needle on the float bowl that it leaked out from.. but this carb doesnt have one to leak from. so i guess its ok
try dropping a small amount of fuel down the spark plug hole and then trying to fire it up. See if it coughs. It could well be an issue with fuel not getting to the carb or past the carb. To check the fuel flow from the fuel line its easier to use the electric start to get a steady turn over which is what pumps the fuel.
i shall give that a try with the droppin petrol into the spark plug hole.. my electric start has never worked, could that be why my fuel isnt being pumped into the carb? its an 04 liquid cooled aerox btw
no the fuel is vacuum drawn bud, so once the engine is being turned over the fuel should begin to flow. The electric start just makes it easier to se the fuel flow as you just press a button haha. the fuel down the hole should see it fire, it wont run as theirs only fuel for one combustion but it should let you know the bike does fire, make sure the bike is on when you try tho haha
ohh right, so the electric start doesnt really matter ,, i was about to go and do it but started pissing it down, gonna wait til that stops and have a try tomorrow now its way to wet and slippery on my decking lol... yup, i always make sure the bike is on when i try to start it haha..
well i had the bike inside today and no luck.. i tried the fuel down the hole, and it just did the usual and didnt start Lol,,, Any suggestions as to what could be the problem ?
your new carb should have a little needle in in float bowl, reason your old carb leaks is most likely the needle seat in float chamber under float is dirty ,that needle works by shutting of petrol supply to float chamber when its full petrol, then opens up to refill it as you are driving, and you really should get the kickstart fixed , if it breaks more how ya gonna stsrt bike up
the spindle type thing with the small teeth on it that holds the actual kickstart has a few teeth missing, and the teeth inside the casing have a couple of chips missing if i remember correctly... And i took the old carb apart and cleaned it a good few times and i couldnt work out the cause, thats why i bought a new carb, was just wondering if the bike wont start with a bigger carb and nothing else. the jets came in the carb already said they were 6mm i think but thing is it never had a problem with it before, even with the old carb,, the bike was riding fine in the beginning just had a water leak which i fixed.. then it ran out of petrol and it now has petrol but has refused to run right since them 2 mishaps
