hey recently got hold of a aprilia sr 172, owner said because of the 28m flatslide carb the throttle wont flick back, is this true? anyways of gettng it so it does flick back? and also its very very stiff? it does have a tnt quick stlye throttle on could that be the problem or do i need that to run the 28m?thanks
flat slide should still sling back in place ... sounds like its traped sumwhere or the quick action throttle int workin properly . u can use standerd throttle with up2 a 30mm carb and the slide still opens fully on full throttle
In our experience the std throttle grip will open a 28mm carb just!. The problem is the oil pump and splitter cable. The maximum stroke of the splitter and the oil pump is 28mm hence anything over a 28mm flatslide we run on pre-mix. Suggest you disconnect the cable at the bars, check through the side case at the oil pump index marks and have a mate look down the throat of the carb, pull the cable by hand and make sure BOTH the throttle slide and the oil pump are opened to max, the oil pump will hold back anything bigger than a 28mm. If your set-up is pre-mix and the splitter has been dispensed with and you are running a single cable from the bars to the carb then it suggests the problem is with the fast action throttle. An average fast action throttle from a `crosser shop will open carbs of 39mm and bigger with a single cable set-up
its running pre mix but the splitter is still on, although the oil pump cable has been removed. i think it could be the quick action throttle because i took slide out the carb, twisted the throttle to fully open, then tried pulling the cable back from the carb end (acting as the spring) and i couldnt do it. any ideas what could be wrong with the quick action throttle? cheers
Could be the TNT throttle or could be the cable in the splitter, if you`re running pre-mix why not just have a new throttle cable made up to eliminate the splitter? should`nt cost more than a tenner or do it yourself  you can buy inner and outer cable by the metre for a few quid and solder your own nipples on (the carb end) and use a solderless nipple on the bar end. Simples
runner throttle will JUST open a 30.... its the same body/cable length of a 28 wiht a bigger hole down the middle.. the oil cable needs ajusting VERRY low at idle but wiht such a big carb the pump isnt keeping up, so you should be on premix anyway wiht a single cable... typh throttle will only just open a 25mm carb.
oh and you can buy cables like dwarf recomended ion ebay VERRY cheaply... (like, 4 quid for everything you need) or any crosser shop for that matter. i use pushbike gear selecter cable inner's and solderless for the throttle/typh throttle
right, thanks for yor help, i think ive took that in lol. i might go about DIY'in one up and se how that goes tbh. thanks
yes ... standerd throttles on both look the same ? ok then ill change my reply you could replace the obviosly shit quick action throttle for a gilera runner throttle . bcoz that does have enuff travel ? and ide do as minor said if runnin pre mix single throttle cable made mine out of a old bike i had lieing around so was free
