Hi all, I inherited a 70s spanish tort 2 stroke a couple of months back. I got it as a none runner so been spending some time getting it running again. My problem at the moment is I can get it start several times in a row, but then nothing for several attempts.

I can't see any obvious reason why it might start first time one day, then the next nothing. or it runs great time after time only not to start the next day.

What I've done so far on it -

    dismantled and cleaned the carb
    checked piston (and rings)
    checked compression
    rewired and getting strong spark
    check flywheel etc
fitted new throttle cable and adjusted

At the moment i've opened up the engine as in my mind i've covered all other bases. the photos below show what I can see.

possible issue #1 - the washer on the left cog is bent in two places
possible issue #2 - theres a ring that seems to be off centre

could either of these be causing intermittent starting?

Any help would be great thanks!

off center washer is a sprang i would say.

the bent washer is meant to be like that its locking the nut in place so it cant back off itself ;) its an oldie school trick once used back in the day .

check the hoses from the carb to motor/cylinder if they still oldes its possible they a bit cracked and split causing air leak,
if they good clean up points and condenser or replace condenser
