Right, Have had a look through the 125 tuning guide.
Not too sure if the same principal applies to a 180.
    Current set up is
    PM59
Open filter w/ jetting to suit,

Was told by a pal that 180 with PM59, 25mm and stiffer clutch springs is just as quick as a 172?
I'm deffo getting a 25mm carb kit and a 172 kit, just not sure which to get 1st? I'm thinking along the lines of getting the 172 then getting the carb as means will not have to faff about with the jetting?
Also going to be getting a Malossi CDI as well soon.
Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Take it you`ve got the std 20.5mm Delorto, and a std-ish 180 set-up (barring the pipe).

Just my opinion but I would fit the 172 kit first, the porting is more agressive and the head is 10.5:1 comp against the std 180 head of 9.8:1 approx.
Dial this in on the old carb, run it for a while then fit the 25mm Delorto and dial this in.
Youve still got to dial a carb in twice but only have to dial in the 25mm once.

Don`t bother spending money on a malossi CDI unless you`re going hi-end porting and revving over 8700rpm, the only difference between that and std is the retard timing at high revs, bottom end and normal street use the std CDI can cope well (ran one on the strip for ages with no problems).

Thanks for the advice. Will go for 172 first then carb and forget the CDI.
As for the Malossi secondary gearing, what is true top speed it will allow and what will 180 gearing allow? Thanks again.

Lol! I quickly edited that out when I realised you`ve got the 180, should`nt worry about gearing it up with the 180 box but as a matter of intrest the ratio`s normally go (from lowest to highest)

    Std 125 box
    Std 180 box
Std 125 box + malossi secondary
Std 180 box + malossi secondary

So youre 180 box has a higher ratio than the std 125 box but lower than a Std 125 box plus gear-up.

It`s a common mod for the 125`s to swap to 180 gearing rather than go Malossi but you`re already there.

and then fit whatever part you can find with malossi/polini in front of it on it aswell

    should be quick and fun

oh yer and once its all done, buy some life insurance for the misses
