Need a new piston and rings for my near NEW 172 kit :rtfm:

WC pistons are bigger than AC right?
so how can donotlink pedstop say the replacement piston kit is the same for the ac and wc kits?? and theyre ment to have codes as well, a,b,c...

    http://www.donotlink-pedstop.com/p/GILERA-RUNNER--PIAGGIO-TYPHOON-1205.aspx

I didnt check what grade my piston was, so will it be quite standard to get a certain grade? or isit totally random..

Also, isit worth looking at aftermarket pistons?

    Thanks

    This is the damage..

My thoughts are piston near enough melted and spark plug dug away at the crown..
but iv heard it could be incorrect squish or timing out?

Also theres two small markings on the piston of the boost port openings..if that helps someone who knows what there looking at..

its warm but localised.. treat as pre detonation/lean conditions (would have to be fuckin lean to do that)

soz.. didnt really tell you anything

squish too tight, shit petrol, wrong mix, way tight plug or any number of things could cause this.. check for obvious faults in cooling sys first then go over the lot.. may be a broken vac pipe somwhere. lots to look out for so check for the obv stuff.

depends who builds it, i have run an AC 172 well over 15,000 miles with no issues.

they do a ,a b and c piston the higher the letter the bigger the piston for a new bore you would want a in theory

    yeh listen to minor
to me that looks like a bad case of predonation caused by not setting the squish correctly so the fuel detonates caused by an earlier than normal compression timing
refit you new piston and check the squish is set correctly with fresh top end gaskets all round to be on the safe side
i think the torque on the head is roughly about 15Nm

also inspect the cylinder bore for any scoring of the nikasil plating which if ignored can damage the new piston and rings consequently

23nm ;) squish to around 0.9 is fine for road fuel
