will a 172 piston from my gilera fit into my typhoon 172 bore cause my gilera has run out of m.o.t so it of the road for now and my typhoon sitll road legal just needs a piston... please help....
dont think it does tbh mate runner being liquid cooled and the typh being aqir cooled i think there are some diffrences
if they have the same letter code stamped into the crown of the piston then yes... chances are it wont tho. probably seen the marks befor.. little letter on the top of the piston.
o.k i phone up psn scooters today and he said that when you when you buy a new 172 gilera bore kit or a 172 typhoon bore kit both bore are the same and the piston are the same as well. just that the gilera bore is water cooled. and a new bore kit comes with a grad (A) piston....any way he said it would be fine but when i buy my next piston for my gilera buy a grade (b) piston... i just wont to get out on my bike. but dont wont to go puting the gilera piston in my typhoon and it fucks the piston and bore then that two piston im left to buy........ :banghead: some 1 must of done this....
you spoke to somone happy to sell you ther wrong part ive had a,b,c,and d pistons in new cylinders so to say the a is the first sidze is wrong.. YES overbore marks are diff to stock fitment.. the next "size" up piston will be what's used after a rebore and guess what, cant rebore nicasill without lining it so you simply machine it so it fits the same piston. the info you were given was wrong.. check both cylinders. the diff sizes are down to indevidual barrel it has fuck all to do wiht if its new or not.. i have 3 diff new 172 kits here ALL with diff bore dimentions/pistons.. ac barrels are bigger, the pistons used are the same (hence allowing for more swell on the piston) if you have an a piston (smallest) and you put it in a wc "c" piston kit it will last 5 mins.. if you have a c in the ac and put it in an "a" wc cylinder it will last 5 mins.. trust me, if it aint the same code dont even think about fitting it. it WILL be ether too big (will seize as soon as it gets warm) or too small (will rattle about and generally nock the shit out of the piston AND the conrod)
PSN are just trying to take ya money... piston and barrel catagories are there for a reason, trust minor as he is the man for these things for sure.
o.k,,, right iv fitted the piston and it seems to be fine and got lots of compession but not started it yet. but will be tomorrow hopefully it o.k and works fine. but will let you no how i get on...
duno cause aint got the typhoon piston no more. so i dont no but im hoping it will be o.k. when i start it up do you no how long it would take to no if it the wrong one...like wiil the bike just stop or some thing....
why didnt you check the bottom of the bore as the markings minors on about are also on the bottom on the bore beit A,B,C
no, you will just likk the cylinder/piston.. meaning you now need a new piston for your wc and a new 172 ac kit... just order a piston an have done wiht it? what is WITH these cheapscate 172 owners? do ANY of you buy new parts?
Do things on the cheap... and just end up doing them twice... As for posting asking for advice, and then just completely ignoring it anyway... cratch:
i by things new, but seriously brap 172zz if you ask a ? an people answer you should take the advice there not gunna say it for no reason an that advice was ti simple look on the bore see what marking was on it an see what marking was on the piston then bosh u would know if its cool or not, but now its in your obv not gunna take it apart to check it are you? so your gunna wait till you ride it an see if it works or fs up your piston AN bore.
o.k minor.... iv been in the shed today and found the piston that come out of my 172 typhoon. the only numbers i can see on the crown of the fucked 172 typhoon piston is (5v) and an arror that points down towords the exhaust. and in side the piston it got (2791)...and on the side of the 172 typhoon bore i can only see (8235)... on the gilera 172 piston crown it got (5v) and the arrow that points down towords the exhaust. and in side the piston it got (2791)... so both piston have got the same numbers so im alright to use the gilera piston right.
i looked for the letter before when i had my kit off but couldnt find it.. any1 got a pic of where they are? im looking to buy a new piston soon, dont wanna be buying the wrong one. :good:
yeah i know but where? like the bottom edge on the outside? or the bit where the gasket goes, or the skirt... i dunno.. i couldnt find it on the bottom of my bore
any one no were this A.B OR C is cause im still looking. only thing apart from (5v) an arrow that points to the exhaust ther is a 50 stamped on the bore with a ring of dots around it.... so no A.B OR C on the bore but piston and numbers are the same. cause im sure ever 172 kit comes with a grade (A) piston..and grade (B)&(C) is if you was to change your piston after a couple of thousand miles then you go to a grade (B) then so on. so even if the had (a on it. would,nt surely an grade (B) be o.k it would just meen a tighter fit... thats wot these grades for right....
