It seems that the first post in this topic was deleted some how but the question is about what gear ups do what in terms of speed.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

malossi secondary with 180 primary, belive there the longest (polini is shorter slightly and top racing shorter, not sure wich one pm tunning put in there box, there are a few others)

It`s not the gearing but the power and ability to pull it!

Std 125 gearbox and a malossi secondary will pull 119 on a dyno but not in the real world with things like drag/rolling resistance/aero dynamics (or lack off).
Tallest gearing currently available would be a Polini 180 primary and a Malossi 125 secondary but you won`t pull it.

Red Dwarf is hexagon based and runs 10" wheels so is a completely different set-up to the runner/drag gearbox.

On a flying mile at a guess ours are geared to about 140 mph.

Yes there are a few special bits not off the shelf in our boxes ;) Luckily Apple Rochester Gears are only round the corner :D

No! that`s the 2nd tallest gearing available.

There is no best it all depends on your set-up.power and what you want.

For road going 172`s the common consensus is that 180 gears are ok, 125 primary and Malossi 125 secondary is the usual way to go.

In order of shortest to longest gearing:

    Std 125.
    Std 180.
Std 125 primary, Malossi 125 secondary
Std 180 primary, Malossi 125 secondary
Polini 180 primary, Malossi 125 secondary.

I hav`nt looked into 180 secondary gear kits as ive found no need to even think about going taller and the last set-up in that list is fucking tall gearing and you`d probably need a tow up to 40mph to get the thing to pull which is fine if you plan to run at Bonaville or do a flying mile :D
