Was thinking today if it would be possible to get the port map and timings off say... a lightly ported 172 or something of the like, and port a 180 barrel to those measurements? Or would the 180 barrel an piston not be able to take it?
thats called an iron lined 172 ( just 8cc's bigger) lol easily done, same amount of ports in same places so heights, timings are easy to reproduce! get the speed and power of the 172 but you get the piece of mind that it can always be rebored if something goes wrong! saves 200+ quid for a new 172! final outcome will always be more powerful from the 172 ali barrrel though due to the heat transfer and all that malarkey! :nerd:
its not just the barrel, think about the bottom end..... 125 cases are better, 172 with 125 casings is always better same applies, you'd have an iron 180 with harsher port maps. more heat too, it can be done just don't really see too much point the port work would be near-ish the price of a 172
180 barrel modded to fit 125 cases then, and yea porting would cost the same as a 172 in the first place but once a 172 is dead, its DEAD! with the 180 its a rebore and new piston? 60 quid rather than 200+
lol its fitting a 180 barrel on a 125 case (hence 180 cases) that is why the 180 cases are swag if you think its such a good idea then why ent it been done?? lol
it has been done, mate has 3 MINT runners, ones a 50, a std 180 and a ported 180, with a 25mm and a zx! and a few other little bit, and it still beats my 172 with just a pm!
Here you are vesta, a piccy of my work mate wez's Runner 172 with a ZX pipe, Thats my Runner in the back ground, and my other colleague lee's Hyosung GTR250 behind mine... oh by the way the zx was ancient and snapped eventually, and was replaced with a scorp
i know how to perfectly well thankyou! i actually set both of these bikes up. why do you think mine should be faster then? mines not ported. his is! arc:
So you bought a 180 cos u wantd a standard bike to not mess about with and now you want to port the 180 barrel lol just get a new 172
