    hey all.

did a quick search but didnt really find what i wanted.

just wondering if 125 scoots are any good, as im 17 soon, but i think ill struggle with the size of a 125 bike, and not really sure i can be bothered with the hassle of gears etc.

just wondering if the 125 scoots are restricted?

    which are better to get?

how fast will one go on average?

would a piaggio zip 125 be any good?

what sort of mileage should i look for, as i dont want to be rebulding the engine?

are they cheaper to insure than a bike?

    any advice/info appreciated :)

    thanks

Check out some of the guys peds on this forum (home page, members peds) and check them out. Also get a Runner 125, Typhoon 125, Aprilia SR125 or if you nick bikes, an Italjet Dragster 125 :p. Seriously all are good bits of kit all with Piaggio engines ;)

I'll let someone with a 125 tell you the rest

scoots like runners/typhoons arent geared they are twist and go... i think a standard 125 would do about 65-70mph and they dont come restricted.

i would say a runner 125 is probably the best overall in my opinion, i had a zip they are good fun but i found them a bit too small.

if you was going to buy one anything below 15000 kms would be fine i would say. i personaly would buy anything about like 25000kms though.

yeah, the zip being small wouldnt be a problem as im tiny anyway ;)

are the typhoons much quicker than the zip? and which are 2stroke and which are 4stroke?

runner may be a bit big im not sure, and underseat storage would be ideal :)

and 15,000 miles really :O so a zip with 8000miles isnt bad atall then?

cant be bothered with the hassle of a bike tbh, all my mates will still be on 50 peds so it would be a lot of hassle with the gears the way we ride lol, ie flat out then about 5mph talkin n tha, lol.

so how much am i looking for a half decent zip/typhoon/runner/sr125 ? second hand, good condition, dont really want to spend more than £600 tops tbh!

    thanks

ill get some sometime soon, im ill atm, just came back from hospital.

its not in the best of condition, few scratched n front pannel got a broken clip, just had a rear tyre though, runs okay though, could do with stiffer clutch springs. mot runs out october and tax in november, but ill get it mot'd anyway because ill be using it, done about 5800miles i think, belly pan could do with another respray and its got a few cracks, just needs a bit of tlc maybe, but its alrite to be honest, just depends how perfect you want it, its a good run around though, rode 50miles the other day none stop and was fine, been on holiday for 3 weeks and it started first kick, pretty reliable tbh

and im in coventry, where about are you?

oh but i wont be sellin it til im on my 125 or ill have no transport so i wouldnt be able to get to work!

I'm in Wolverhampton well tbh i would like something that would be cheap and reliable transport throughout the winter while i do my Booster up. Dunno really might have it but i know this guy who works in a bike shop looking out for something "interesting" for me, but if that fails then i'll seriously consider it, mail me some pics on my email whenever, cheers dude

right so basically, would like it if somebody could spare a bit of time and write me a lil list of the options for 125's, not really fussed about a runner, but may consider it, so would prefer make and model, top speeds? 2/ or 4/ underseat storage etc :)

    thanks :D

all in standard form, clock speeds
    runner -70-75 mph
    sr- 65-70mph
    typhoon 65-70
    dragster-70-75
    skipper-65-70

all the above in 2 stroke form are very good bikes and have a lot of tuning potential, all quite reliable and cheap/easy to repaire, pick 1 up with under 10,000 on the clock and ur laughing, can still pick up a standard 1 with 20,000 on the clock and it should chug along fine for a while.

    runner VX- 65-70
    zip -60-65
    vespa gt 125 65-70

all above in 4 stroke will chug on almost for ever, very reliable engines slower at getting to top speeds (acceleration) but sit quite comftably when there there. anything with under 20,000 on the clock n ul be laughing

there the best of the bunch in my oppinion as piaggio make some good engine's just remeber to buy 1 thats been looked after so u dont get any unwanted problems ;)

thanks mate, im light anyway, only 7 stone LOL so accel's fine, and ill just stick lighter rollers in if not lmao.

clock speeds much out to realistic speeds?

my neos reads about 55 on the speedo, so another 10mph should help but would prefer as much as possible, prefer a 2 stroke aswel just for the noise haha :) also do you see any different benefit puttin a sports pipe on a 125, as there isnt really any on a 50, dno if it works different or anything ?

    thanks

Alright your ped is probably doing about 45 mph real speed with that setup, however a 70 kit combined with a good pipe would get you seeing well over 10mph extra over that real speed, if geared up and properly setup. If that's all you'd need i'd do that as it'll save you some money. There are quite noticeable benefits to running a 50 with a sports pipe, try yours next to a stock Neos and you'd notice the difference immediately ;)

i doubt the speedo could be 10mph out. its not that slow, keeps up with cars in on road wit 50mph limits, overtakes lorrys etc, takes 40mins to do a 30mile journey so not bad atall tbf, but yeah, if a 125 scoot will do a genuin 70mph would be happy then i guess

ur scoot is doing 45 if ur lucky not 55, sorry to be harsh but thats how out they are, 54 on my rox was 39.9 real :( . get urself 1 of the 2 strokes i listed and ull be more than happy with it in standard form, if u realy want to tune it but dont want to spend to much, buy a malossi 172 kit, fit it, up jet and adjust ur rollers and ull be more than happy ;)

well tbh, mine runs well as it is, and if its only goin 45, so with the speedo inaccuracy on long journeys i cruise at about 40 and it doesnt take me long to go far, a 125 so make things a lot easier.

yeah, about a 172 kit, are the cranks in the 125's better in camparison to 50's, as i wouldnt bother if it was going to cause problems, but if its as easy as just sticking the kit on, upjetting and setting up the transmission might be worth it :)

i dont see how out the clocks can be, because if theyre accurate upto 30, which i suppose they have to be, its not like the gears inside change after this so the ratio should stay the same

    i dno lol.

when i was first looking for a 50 i was avoiding speedshites, rox's etc because i initially thought that they were big, but after riding my neos which is small, the seats on rox's and speedshites etc are lower, any ideas on the size of a runner then?

the runner seems quite favourable, any good tips or info on them? common problems etc?

    thanks :)
