I got a Nrg which needed a new piston and rings, so I put a new piston in new spark plug, fresh petrol, fresh oil. I am getting a good spark and the lights on the clocks come on briefly when I try and kick start it.

I stood last night for half an hour goin mad on the kick start with no joy. It has completely baffled me, my set up is:

    70cc kit A/C,
    Leo vince TT exhaust,
    Standard dellorto 17.5mm carb.

Any help or advice is very much appreciated as I need this running for Monday!!!!! :-(

Is the plug getting wet? Is there 100% no leaks anywhere?

Erm anywhere? Inlet, exhaust, seals, gaskets etc etc anything that needs to be airtight

And when you kick it over does any smoke come out?

No smoke, plug is wet. It just doesn't sound like it wants to fire!!! There is one black pipe coming from below the carb up to behind the exhaust, it has a jubilee clip on but it isn't attached to anything!! Dont know what it's for

Im guessing you have a sports pipe? Thats probably part of the catalyser which you only can use on the stock pipe. Unless its a soft hose maybe something is disconnected?

If your plug is wet and its a good barrell and rings then its spark i reckon. New plug maybe or you can try cleaning the plug and putting oil and petrol on the end?

Iv put a new plug in and just had a new piston and rings, it has a spark as I have checked!!

Daft question but should there be a gasket between the barrel and head on air cooled?

Who knew 2 strokes could cause such head aches!! Haha

yes you must have gaskets on other wise can cause air leak which can result in either not starting, aswell as it not starting do wat ramo said but way i do it is dip end of spark plug in fuel and pour 5-10ml of oil down spark plug hole then put plug in and turn engine over and should start. if this doesnt work try get back so we can help

when you kick it over, are you twisting the throttle as you kick????

Old trick was to keep the throttle closed and then twist as it fires...something to do with the electronic ignition not liking it

An old mechanic told me that when I was new into bikes and young and unaware. I was having trouble starting my 125. I tried it and from then on always use that method...seems to work for me

I have had a similar problem on other bikes i have owned, as stig says I used to use that method, but also another trick is to hold the electric start while slowly turning the throttle mm at a time and it should fire. However do not hold the electric start for more than 5-6 seconds at one time o.e hold for 5 seconds let go and try again, usually did the trick for me

If everything seems to be okay, Piston rings, Gaskets, Petrol Flow, Spark, Compression, only thing i could think, is your choke working?

Gonna take the carb off tonight and see if it's all clean n stuff.

Iv kicked it while turning the throttle as I kick, not tirning it at all and with it fully on!

I'm really tempted to just stick it into a garage to see what they think it is!!! Grrrrrr

fuel needs to be attomized to a certain ratio with air in order to ignite so it'll be a waste of time
