Hi guys, basically I've got a Zip 50 2 stroke. I first got the bike & it was great doing over 50 with a great lump like me on it. However quickly I noticed that going up a hill it lost a LOT of power & started to do so on & off over the days. I took it to my mates & a bike shop & they said new rollers so my mate fitted those for me however it didn't really make any difference & old rollers seemed ok. I'm now struggling to hit over 35 & on full revs feels like there's nothing more so I have to let off then back on the throttle. Do any of you guys have any idea what could be causing this? Many thanks, Matt.
were the rollers you fitted the correct weight ? have you tried a new spark plug ? have you fitted anything or done anything to the bike prior to the drop off in performance :glare:
Hi Dave, cheers for the reply mate. I think the rollers fitted were 6.5g as we thought this would be about right as it has a Leo Vince exhaust on. Not tried a new spark plug, might try that today. I have done nothing to the bike - it wasn't performing properly when I first got it however it feels like it's deteriorated. I have noticed there's also a slight two stroke oil leak however I wonder if the bottle has been filled up too much at some point. Many thanks, Matt.
Hope the new plug sorted it out, but if not; Dave will probably give you a better idea, but 6.5 sounds too heavy especially with that pipe, at a guess I would be trying 5/5.5 grams, and work from there. Reducing the gearing well might be the answer to your problems, as I am 17 stone plus, and I found lighter rollers helped compensate for my weight. I realize this might be masking some other demise, but if it works......
Cheers for that GUNS. I'm going to pick up another plug probably later if not then tomorrow so it'd be a great help if someone could let me know the rough roller weight? It had crossed my mind that it was roller related. Many thanks, Matt.
must admit i was thinking too heavy rollers from the start, which is why i asked further questions... if you buy some 5.5 gram rollers, and try them, then if they turn out to be a little too light, you can mix 3x 6.5g with 3x 5.5g to make the equivalent of 6.0gram rollers
Well I've just found my old rollers, weighed them and they're 5.5! They seem in good condition, no flat spots at all but may buy some just to be sure. Think I'll still change the plug. Only other thing now is to try and see what's going on with it leaking two stroke!
whack the 5.5's in :good: you may need stiffer clutch springs too, if your initial take off is still poor... and find out where the 2 stroke oils leaking from, because if your engines being starved of oil, that could cause sluggish performance, and your engine will be wrecked :glare:
The 5.5's are going in ASAP! The initial take off isn't too bad it's just top end, it feels almost as if it's cutting out so I'm having to pump the throttle back & it's holding back. I'm trying to look now - the connection to the oil tap didn't seem too clever so I've tightened that up a bit however it seems as if there's been a leak from the top of the oil container - I wonder if it's been over filled at some point? Only other thing to my knowledge could be that there may be a hole somewhere? Many thanks for the replies, Matt.
Thanks for the replies guys, greatly appreciated :good: I'm sure I'll have some more slightly daft questions coming along soon   Cheers, Matt.
