I would fit another variator complete including centre spacer tube and all the washers, new nut.
Are you fitting the small washer that sit's under the variator nut?
Think about it, your out in the cold longer than most being so slow, but saying that you should not be so cold as you've not got the wind chill...

Gauges to tell you what? Turbo boost pressure, water temp, oil pressure, vacuum, time? I don't think anyone's fitted gauges cos there not needed.

The zip/nrg are the same engines as the aprilia so I'm only guessing the mudguard will be near enough the same, buy one and try it!
The rear brake light is 21 watt, it's drawing power away from the headlights, the charging system can't supply every bulb with power unless engine...
The nrg, runner will be the same mudguard so no difference.

Is the pump jet arm working? The black plastic arm on the side of carb, these sometimes sieze up, work the throttle to see if it moves like a see-saw.
