wich IS an alfa engine....

never gonna happen. it's more work putting the 4x4 work into the fl;oor/sispention that it would be to build a car from scratch. a metro uses subframes, this wont acomidate rear drive, meaning you have to fabricate a new subframe for an axel (shorter driveshafts) then somhow cut the floor away where this is ment to mount to just to clear the lot. the tunnel through the car would ether be intrusive or the engine would sit WAY too far forward... why not put it in a subaru justy? (suzuki swift, jap clone of a metro prittymuch) wich HAS a 4x4 floor and apropriate suspention fitment to accept the correct suspention type for the engine

basicly an old metro wiht a subaru engine is a fail.... it's never gonna happen, if it does then you sir would have spent LOTS of money making somthing that looks no better than a 1982 metro.. why not a 6r4 replica? bodykits come off the shelf and the work is the same prittymuch... but it fits. this wont..

i hate to piss on your fireworks.. but it's a good idea if your pissed down the pub wiht a few m8's... but an old metro you spent more than a grand building (will be close to 10 by the time this is done, if atall) your a fool as your STILL driving around a rusty old metro.

talkin of conversions...
My work collegue years back had a RS2000 custom 1979 T reg

he bought a sierra 4x4 2.9 as a write-off and then grafted the engine, gearbox, suspension and 4 wheel running gear onto the RS  keeping the standard look of the RS

Didn't quite get it running (carbed it instead of injection) before he sold it as a work in progress before emigrating to New Zealand in 2003

It had such potential though' Would really liked to have seen it finished and had a drive

did a capri wiht a m8 about 10 years ago wiht the same engine.. there FUCKIN wide engines for what they are (would fit a v8 better) and heavy as fuck.... plus in an escort your always better wiht the lighter revvier 2.0 cossie turbo (pinto based rather than cologne like the 24v)

would have been seriously quick in a straight line, but a mix of understeer and dangerous tail happy charicterists make for a poor conversion.. there are a few nocking about none the less..

the same m8 wiht the capri now has a sierra rs500 shape with a 3.6 cologne based engine (hard to do) with a decent set of pistons, a couple big turbos and some seriously bald tyres... gotta love the mechano nature of fords.

the whole car is going to be spaceframed and the floor rebuilt to allow for the 4x4 gearbox and different

and yea it's going to look like a bog standard metro as it will ba a street sleeper

i'm building it for fun and it's a slow wip it doesn't matter to me if it comes to £10.,00 it's the funny of building it from scratch and to prove dobters wrong ;)

and at the end of it i can say i built it from scratch and didnt get a garage to build it for me

by all means all the best... but to spend 10 grand on a "bog standard looking metro" is just stopooopid tbh.. as yes it's faster, handles disgustingly and supprises everyone, but it's still one of the ugliest cars made from the WORST metal for rust ever?!?!?!

why not put the work into somthing wiht a little more class? metro's are mini's for skint people.. theres a million and one small cars you could do this to and actually build somthing nice.. not just end up wiht a metro at the end of the day :P

cheers :)

i doubt it will cost me 10k to build as with how much i have done so far i have only spent just over 500 thats for a complete scooby legacy (£70), metro (£120), porker teledials (£250) and a pair of buckets and harnesses (£160), i know i still have alot to buy ie roll cage, fuel tank, dials, sheet steel ect

and i am a skint person :( lol

i have always loved metros and now i have one i wana do something crazy with it  :)

i know people are gunna doubt me, they always have but it just spurs me on to do more then once it's complete it will kinda put them swallow their words ;)

because it something you would never expect from a metro

and it something that would wipe the smile off a boy racers face and off the posh barstards faces with their fancy cars lol

ye, for a year or two.. same effect wiht any car you throw the engine in.. just saying a metro mechanically is just a poor choice for this build.. the metal the shel's are made of is of DUBIOUS quality..

your choice.. would say itl be worth it in the end.. but it's a metro.
