Went back to a scoot as its cheaper to run than my old pegaso 125 Cheaper to rebuild too Tyres are like 30 quid eatch instead of 80 Pegaso done 30 mpg if i was lucky ped does about 50 Pegaso was 400 a year to insure the scoot is 80
Got myself a scooter as it is cheaper to run than a car or 700cc Deau on a short commute to work. Can't be bothered with a push bike due to the lovely hill I would have to face at the end of a long day!
I got scooter as i was sick of been a bus W**ker and couldnt wait another year to get car and now decided to not bother with car for time been as insurance is rediculous wen 17..
Scooters were not a big thing when I was growing up in South Africa. At 16 we could legally ride (besides 50cc scooters) all the old geared liquid cooled 50cc bikes namely (road/scrambler) Suzuki RGT Gamma/TZ, Yamaha RZ/DT and Honda CBX/MTX. No Kawas as the AR/AEs were the last ones around which were all aircooled. The reason for me owning a scooter now is to get to work and back as the Yamaha R1 1999 4XV is mint with low miles and as a short-ass it is a bit of a dog in traffic. CVT is the best in traffic.
I love my scooter because it is so easy to ride. I believe in keeping things simple, especially potentially dangerous things, so not having to worry about gears is great. I ride a Honda Vision 110cc. At 49 years old it is the first motorcycle I have ever ridden. Can't believe what I have been missing all these years !!
Fuel prices and commuting 130 miles a week. The Dylan does all of that on one £6 tank of fuel. To do the same in my 1.3 fiesta would cost about £20 / week. Driving is less fun and you have to deal with more assholes on the road i feel. For me, riding equals less stress, more manouverable, bypasses most gridlock and traffic jams. The down side is you get wet a lot. But then we didnt buy bikes in a country with a lot of rainfall expecting it to always be sunny. After doing my CBT last year, and after riding for 10 months, i have to say i will probably dump the car in the next 6 months, do my DAS and buy something bigger for the odd trip i take up North (FJS 600, Satelis 500, or some other reasonably spec'd scoot), and buy a big bike for when I feel the need to cross the Sahara Desert or ride around Europe / The World (V-Strom, Transalp, Tenere or similar (but not a BMW or Harley)).
Economy and its just fun to drive. Easy and cheap tuning too. Had a great time tuning up my BigBore 86cc SR.
