never seen an old one, think that one could be nice with some adjustments. i hate new designs nowadays though, always has to look like its from the future

imagine how heavy peds would be if all the plastics were glass and metal ect

quality of plastic only matters if you constantly drop the bike ad dont take care of them tbh...

that is bullshit and you know it

regarding your theory why not tell piaggio to start using cake wrappers as it dont matter of the quality as you wont ever drop your scoot and you look after it

    obviously within reason..

if you drop it the panels are getting fucked either way.

all panels are meant to do is keep the electrics ect from the elements, get rid of any sharp edges and make a scooter somewhat more secure. oh and look nice. doesnt matter what theyre made of for the most part!

mate a ped functions just as well whether it has panels that are a inch thick or 90% of its plastics off (arguably better with the panels off tbh....added weight/drag and that stuff)...

making them out of plastic is probably cheaper than cake wrappers also..

if a panel cant take any kind of abuse before cracking its shit quality and should reflect in the price like chinky bikes

the fact is scooters aint cheap (talking about new prices) if you want a propa manufacturer when you compare the prices to larger capacity bikes considering scooters are basic

my aprilia rally panels are pretty good quality and so was my trekker there panels were solid unlike chinky scoots and shitzuki katana although sym panels must be solid i witnesed a sym jet crash 30mph into a stationary car and the front panel mudgaurd and forks all survived unharmed apart from a scratch on the front panel and 1 broken lug

personally if a manufacturer offered a scoot with thinner plastics for a small price discount id go for that but maybe thats just me

Vespa's are nearly all metal? However generally they cost a shed load more new than crapper bikes.
